Ok, I have definitely talked a lot on reflective theory, so it is very long but I wanted to get all my ideas across on the different methods of reflecting. I got a little confused on certain sections like knowledge, but after re-reading and looking at other blogs, I believe that I finally gained knowledge on knowledge! (see what I mean). Anyway, please have a read, I would be grateful for any comments, even if you don't get all the way through it.
Task 2c Reflective Theory
Thank you
Lisa and I blogged today about the course and we discussed the use of critical thinking - I had not looked at the google doc - but this is what I would call critical thinking. Lisa has added critiques of more abstract theories and models when examining her own practice. I also use a lot of informal writing on my blog - but it is this level of more formal writing that can also be effective for examining and explaining.
ReplyDeleteBAPP introduces adult learning theories as examples are ways of looking at practice. This provides a framework, but a lot of the 'content' of the course comes from experiences in the workplace. Many of us use disciplinary (in this case Lisa studied theatre arts) knowledge and understanding, professional practice course also looks at knowledge outside of that disciplinary context in three main themes, social media, reflective practice and professional networking. I find this idea that we can think ‘outside of the box’ liberating – but it sometimes takes some getting used to – an idea Alan has blogged about. Critical thinking is when we apply these abstract ways of working to our more practical situations AND are able to communicate that thinking to our peers. As a peer I really enjoyed the conversation I had with Lisa because it made me think about the ideas and their applications; one idea is the comparison between a facilitator like myself and a director, Lisa thought good director’s let you “find your own place” which is very like my own view of what I do. Good luck on the pantomime - your experiences are providing you with a lot of opportunities to hone your skills - and you are doing a good job with sharing them with the rest of us. Scheduling in the coursework before your heavy performance time makes sense, I will look forward to more blogs.
